County Surplus Vans for Nonprofits in Need

Each year I have the privilege to honor a few organizations that serve high-need populations across King County by donating a “retired” King County vanpool van to four of them. This is a really enjoyable part of being a King County Councilmember in providing these community partners with a valuable, much-needed asset. These vans still have a lot of life left in them and I’m pleased to see them put to good use serving our County residents.

Last week, I delivered vans to:

ARC of King County

ARC of King County

Mary’s Place

Union Gospel Mission (King5 ran a story about how Union Gospel Mission will use its new van.)

We’ll be delivering our final van to Rite of Passage Journeys next week.

I thoroughly enjoyed sharing in the excitement of the organizations’ staff, volunteers, and clients when we turned over the keys to their new vans. While I received many thanks in person, I made sure the praises were directed to all county residents. I offer my thanks to you as well.

Please contact my office if your organization is interested in receiving a surplus van next year. To be considered, the van is required to be used for transporting children, youth, seniors, or vulnerable clients, e.g., ones with disabilities, rather than their staff.
